Throughout your degree you’ll be encouraged to experiment in your writing as you learn to identify and cultivate your particular voice.
You’ll be taught to critically assess and edit your work and the work of others.
When we can’t think straight it is hard to find relief from our suffering. Through writing we can find the ‘story’ within our ‘situation’ and take more control of that story.
Of course it’s not quite as simple as that – but almost.
I remember enthusing widely about my writers’ group (which I suddenly realise I’ve been a part of for almost a year and a half now), yet being somewhat divided on the subject of creative writing courses.
It wasn’t until later that I got to really thinking about why – given that both focus mainly on workshopping and outside feedback.
