Print copies of undigitised higher research theses are stored at the Modern Records Centre.
It is not possible to borrow theses (only one copy may be in existence), but you can request and consult them in the MRC's reading room.
More than 1 million full-text dissertations, and many additional citations to dissertations.
If the dissertation you need is not available full-text through this or Dissertations & Theses Global, try requesting it through Interlibrary Loan.
You will need to supply the classmark (the section which starts 'res DIS' in the catalogue entry) to request a thesis - staff can usually retrieve undigitised theses from the strongrooms within 5 minutes.
As the Modern Records Centre is an archive and holds many unique and historic documents, we have restrictions on what researchers can bring into the research area - when looking at theses, you will be requested to leave your university card at the reception desk and asked not to have food, drink or bags at your table (lockers are available).
Note that no research theses are now held by the University of London Library.
UCL started to award its own degrees to students registering from 2007/2008.
The Library holds a copy of most research degree theses completed by students registered at UCL and awarded by the Uo L, including many from students at Schools and Institutes prior to merger with UCL.
Theses are listed by author on the Library catalogue, Explore: they are shelved in our off-campus Store and may be retrieved for consultation (24hour notice required) by completing the store request form or via the request link on Explore.
